From 1981 through 1995, Mr. Garcia practiced law and was a partner in two premier law firms. From 1992 through 1998, he owned and operated a successful private equity investment company. Since then he has managed his family's capital by investing in a very low turnover, concentrated portfolio of public securities.
Mr. Garcia has served on the board of a NASDAQ and three New York Stock Exchange companies, where he served as the chairman of the audit committee, governance committee, finance committee and compensation committee. He is past Chairman of the Investment Advisory Council for the Florida Pension fund System, which oversees over $150 billion in investment assets. He has served on the board of a number of government and nonprofit organizations. He also founded and funded his family's charitable foundation.
Mr. Garcia graduated with a B.A. in accounting from the University of South Florida and with a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law.
Mr. Garcia predominantly focuses on the allocation of Pinehill’s financial capital—sourcing and managing the family’s investments. He also manages the overall operation of the family-office.
In addition to his investment duties at Pinehill, Mr. Garcia serves as a Director for his family’s charitable foundation, The Garcia Family Foundation. His specific philanthropic passion is post-9/11 military veterans and he leads the family’s giving in that space.
Mr. Garcia began his career at Raymond James Financial where he ultimately served as a Vice President and Senior Asset Management Consultant. He was responsible for managing the firm’s southwest territory including Texas, Arizona, and California, among other states, and he traveled within this territory weekly to conduct business in a face-to-face manner with clients.
Mr. Garcia graduated from The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., where he captained the football team. He holds an MBA degree from the University of Florida.
Mr. Garcia earned his Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA©) designation from the Investment Management Consultant Association at the Wharton School of Business, the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Garcia also earned his Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA©) designation from the Investments and Wealth Institute at the Booth School of Business, the University of Chicago. He is a member of the Investments & Wealth Institute.
He is happily married to his college sweetheart and they have two children. When he is not consumed by his favorite activity—time with his family—he enjoys reading, exercising, and a good cigar.
Mr. Garcia is the President of the Garcia Family Foundation. His responsibilities at the foundation include sourcing grant making opportunities, managing the grant making process and making funding recommendations to the board of the foundation. In addition, he functions as the Chief Financial Officer of Pinehill Capital.
Mr. Garcia began his career at Raymond James Bank, initially serving in a loan underwriting capacity and ultimately serving as a Banking Consultant for Private Client Banking. His responsibilities included the evaluation of capital structures and financial operating statements. He consulted clients about desirable liquidity levels and assisted them in developing strategic borrowing plans.
Mr. Garcia holds an MBA in finance from the University of Tampa and a Bachelor’s Degree in economics from Wofford College. He lives in Tampa with his wife and son, where they enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle.
